“The thing about common sense is that it’s not very common.

-Paul Boross MBE

There’s so much to say about Paul Boross MBE aka The Pitch Doctor, specialises in corporate communication. Drawing on a career that has taken him from primetime TV, music and stand-up comedy to production, business, consultancy and motivational psychology, he trains celebrities and executives in the art and craft of communication, leadership and sales. Paul’s frontline experience of performance (his credits include a 10-year stint at London’s legendary Comedy Store) and strong commercial instincts enable him to deliver focused and effective training to clients from across the industry spectrum, from the BBC to Barclays via Google, Nestlé, WPP, Virgin and MTV.

“Want to work smarter not harder? Then think funnier…”

-Paul Boross MBE

How many motivation speakers who list pop star, stand-up comedian, TV psychologist and business guru on their CV? Undoubtedly only Paul Boross. His first brush with fame came in the late Eighties with a string of chart-topping hits with Morris Minor and The Majors and as one half of The Calypso Twins with future celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott. In the early Nineties, Paul became a fixture on London’s buzzing comedy circuit, regularly guesting with the Comedy Store Players.

From here, he segued into primetime TV, serving as the motivational psychologist for 9 years on Sky’s The School of Hard Knocks and presenting BBC Two’s Speed Up Slow Down. He is also in demand as a ‘talking head’ on TV and radio, where his ability to read the speech, body language and subliminal secrets of the likes of Donald Trump, Prince Andrew and Boris Johnson ensure he’s a popular booking.

“Surround yourself with the best …”

-Paul Boross MBE

The Daily Express described Paul’s approach to pitching and presenting as “a master class in verbal communication”. Those skills — the ability, in Paul’s words, “to get your message across, every time, to everybody” — have also been distilled into four best-selling Amazon books: The Pitching Bible, The Pocket Pitching Bible, Pitch Up! and Leader On The Pitch, the last co-written with rugby legend Scott Quinnell. HumourologyThe Serious Business of Comedy will be published in 2020.

Sir Richard Branson — no slouch himself on the public-speaking front — has described Paul as “the king of keynotes”. And Branson is by no means alone in his praise. Eivind Landsverk, programme director of Norwegian commercial channel TVNorge, said this after one of Paul’s keynotes: “With his motivating speech about pitching and communication, Paul has inspired and developed our team and our skills in a positive and enjoyable way.”

Paul has worked with numerous stars of stage, screen, sport and business, including Robin Williams, Sir Clive Woodward, Jo Brand, Rowan Atkinson, Paul Merton, Mike Myers, Eddie Izzard, Jack Dee, Dermot Murnaghan, Lee Evans, Steve Coogan and Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon. This has enabled him to make a forensic study of what he has dubbed ‘the winning mindset’ and how it drives leadership, performance under pressure and communication skills. It is this psychological insight that serves as the model for Paul’s highly effective approach to the science of communication, persuasion and influence.

For Paul himself, it’s all about communication and connection. He puts it like this: “My years of experience in the entertainment, music and business worlds have taught me how to talk to any audience in a way that makes them want to listen. And if we can have a laugh along the way, so much the better.”
